I know you are probably thinking, "Tanzania? That's awfully spendy for a Public Radio program."
Well, TED - a conference that WNYC records and produces podcasts for - bought the plane tickets. So calm down. We didn't let the listeners' support wildly extravagant travel expenses. Once you get there (btw I'm not there yet right now) it looks to be pretty inexpensive. My hotel bed -- I'm planning on staying at a missionary rooming house in Bukoba -- should be about $1.25 a night, for example. Decent meals at restaurants, by todays' exchange rate, look to be under 45 cents.
